Uber and NVIDIA’s robotaxi plan: Australian readiness context

An international deployment plan is not confirmation of an Australian launch city, approved service or local fleet-operations partner.

What Uber announced on 16 March 2026

Uber’s release describes plans for NVIDIA L4 software-driven robotaxis across 28 cities by 2028 through a staged international deployment. Australia is named as a region. The release does not confirm a particular Australian city or establish that an Australian passenger service is operating. The original release remains the source for the announcement.

What the announcement does not establish

A global rollout plan does not establish local operating permissions, vehicle availability, a service boundary or an Australian booking date. It also does not identify T Cab as a partner. Announced plans should be distinguished from deployed operations and from later city-specific decisions; the source publication date is not a guarantee of current availability.

Why ground support remains a separate discussion

Any future local operation would need to define charging, cleaning, condition reporting, maintenance coordination and hub responsibilities alongside the vehicle and platform arrangements. T Cab welcomes prospective Sydney readiness discussions, but claims no relationship with Uber or NVIDIA and no allocated fleet. Australian and NSW requirements would still apply to any local proposal.
