Autonomous fleet operations in NSW: policy and safety
We follow public policy closely. Australian deployment requires significant legislative action. No approval or endorsement of T Cab Mobility by these bodies is implied.
The 2024–27 Plan outlines distinct workstreams for automation, connectivity, and cross-cutting readiness.
Critical milestones include implementing the AVSL and establishing an in-service safety regulator.
Office of Future TransportThe intended Commonwealth Automated Vehicle Safety Law (AVSL) places safety responsibility for the Automated Driving System (ADS) squarely on a corporation known as the ADSE.
This fundamentally shifts liability from the human driver to the system provider.
States and territories require complementary laws and operational capability to support deployments.
Current trials necessitate specific permits/exemptions, rigorous safety management, insurance, and data sharing protocols.
NSW RTA 2013 Pt 5.6Transport Ministers agreed on 21 November 2025 to enable a pathway for conditional deployment in selected locations from 2027.
This remains strictly dependent on individual jurisdiction readiness and legislative passage. The NTC notes AVs are not yet generally commercially available in Australia.
