The limited exposure draft

In a submission dated 16 September 2026, the FCAI commented to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts on a draft Automated Vehicle Safety Bill 2026 that it says was shared on a confidential basis before broader consultation.

Topics raised by the FCAI

Topics raised include ADS operator certification across vehicle types, executive-officer liability, the boundary between the ADS entity and third-party fleet operators, a mandatory three-year interim review and concessional entry pathways.

An industry submission, not law

As at 12 October 2026 we could not find a public draft or a bill introduced into federal Parliament; this is an industry submission, not law and not a government decision, and it does not set a launch date.
