The target and the latest count

Waymo has said since December 2025 that it is on a path to provide 1 million fully autonomous rides a week by the end of 2026. When it announced a US$16 billion funding round in February 2026, valuing the company at US$126 billion post-money, Waymo reported more than 400,000 weekly rides across six US metro areas. On Alphabet's first-quarter 2026 earnings call, Sundar Pichai said Waymo had surpassed 500,000 fully autonomous rides per week, "doubling in less than a year". Waymo has not published a higher weekly figure since.

City expansion and cost

Expansion has continued. Service opened to everyone in Dallas (4 August) and Houston (20 August), first public riders were welcomed in Denver, San Diego and Tampa from 1 September, and Las Vegas followed in mid-September. Alphabet's Other Bets segment, which includes Waymo, reported a US$1.8 billion operating loss for Q2 2026.

T Cab's view

In our view, the US experience shows that scale depends as much on depots, charging and fleet operations as on the driving software, and that is the capability Australian fleet operators will need to build. T Cab is AV-agnostic and claims no relationship, affiliation or endorsement with Waymo, Alphabet, Google, Uber or Tesla.
